AI & Human Safety

Why AI safety is a human safety question

When an automated system decides whether someone qualifies for a loan, sees a job listing, or gets flagged as a risk, that decision affects their life the same way a human decision would — but often with less visibility into why it was made.

We don't think of AI safety as a separate, technical concern. It's the same question we ask about any other system with power over people's lives: is it transparent, is it accountable, and does the person it affects have any way to understand or contest it?

Where this fits

This is why AI Safety sits inside our Safety pillar rather than off to the side as a technology topic — it's one more place where people can be exposed, and one more place safety needs to reach.
