Most institutions treat connection as something that happens on its own, alongside their real work. But left to chance, connection tends to concentrate among people who already have plenty of it — and stay scarce for everyone else.
Designing for connection means treating it as infrastructure: something with a structure, a cadence, and a way for a newcomer to enter it, rather than something you either happen to find or don't.
What that could look like
Regular, low-friction touchpoints instead of one large event. Clear, small entry points instead of an all-or-nothing commitment. And a way for someone to both give and receive support, rather than always being cast as one or the other.
